Lumilux® luminescent products are developed and manufactured in a variety of
types, colors and particle sizes to serve many different applications and
industries.
Your first decision should be : Which type of luminescent product fits your
needs? Please note the distinction among the terms luminescence, fluorescence
and phosphorescence.
A fluorescent product emits light only during the time when it is excited by an
energy source such as light with different energy or wavelength.
A phosphorescent product continues to emit light after the energy source has
been removed. This is typically referred to as a glow-in-the-dark or afterglow
effect. Phosphorescence could also be viewed as delayed fluorescence.
Luminescence includes both fluorescence and phosphorescence.
Fluorescent pigments, dyes and fibers are what we call invisible colorants,
meaning they add color to end products, but these color features are invisible
under normal illumination.
The difference between pigments and dyes is relatively simple - pigments are
insoluble in the used matrix material, whereas dyes are soluble. For reasons of
simplicity, we consistently refer to Lumilux® pigments but these may include
materials which are soluble and behave as dyes.
