We offer several "glow-in-the-dark" products that absorb daylight or
ultraviolet radiation to bring about afterglow or glow-in-the-dark effects for
safety products as well as for long afterglow toys and novelties, suitable for
use in polymer applications.
Afterglow brightness depends on the concentration and the grade of pigment
used. The higher the concentration of afterglow pigment in the plastic article,
the more intense the afterglow effect.
For high-end applications, such as phosphorescent safety systems, pigment
loading has to meet exactly the requirements of brightness and afterglow
duration.
The typical loading may range from 10% to 30% by weight, with up to 30%
recommended for the Lumilux® N-grades and up to 15% for SN-grades.
For special effects and artistic applications the concentration can be lower:
10% by weight for the Lumilux® N-grades and 3 to 5% for the Lumilux® SN
grades.
On request, we have samples of various afterglow plastic plaques available.
These are the most common plastic grades, made with different Lumilux®
afterglow pigments, provided together with processing instructions for the
manufacturing process, decay curves and technical information.
Honeywell Specialty Materials can produce customized luminescent pigments to
customers specifications.
