Anhydrous HF
Aqueous HF

Overview
For many years, Honeywell has offered HF Emergency Response Training as a value added service to our customers. Attendees at these sessions have found the training provided to be of significant value and directly applicable to activities at their plant locations.

To make the response exercise meaningful to all participants, the number of attendees at each session must be limited to no more than 28. If sessions are filled participants will be given the option of attending the next scheduled session.

Historically, we have certified successful participants to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) First Responder Operations Level plus 8 hours Incident Command System instruction. Although HAZWOPER Operations Level is a defensive response level (no active intervention in mitigation), we've included additional instruction on subjects such as donning and doffing of all levels of PPE, use of air monitoring instrumentation, and other materials well beyond the scope of Operations Level. One of the key learning tools used is hands-on response to a mock incident where participants can demonstrate competency to the skills learned in the classroom. The time constraint (24 hours) has prevented certification to higher levels of competence.

We are also constantly challenged to make the class "More HF specific".

To that end, we are now offering certification to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 472 Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents Private Sector Specialist Employee B. The competency requirements to this active response level all are prefaced by "Given a specific chemical…". While the core curriculum will not change, by making the materials "more HF specific", we are able to offer this certification.

Under the "equivalent training" provisions and Appendix E of HAZWOPER, employers may use this NFPA 472 certification to verify the competency of attendees to Hazardous Materials Specialist level [29CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(iv)]. HAZWOPER is strictly a US regulation and is typically work place specific. NFPA 472 competency, in addition to meeting HAZWOPER equivalent training, has recognition in Canada and general recognition by public service first responders (fire and police departments).

We will continue to verify mandated annual re-qualification to First Responder Operations Level (q)(8).

Participants will be responsible for expenses related to travel, lodging and meals. Honeywell will assume the cost of the training and sponsor a group dinner one evening. Lunch will be provided during the incident response exercise at the plant on the third day.
