Genetron 407C

 |
Genetron 407C is a ternary blend of HFC-32, HFC-125, and HFC-134a that
serves as a non-ozone-depleting replacement for R-22 (HCFC-22) in various
air-conditioning applications, as well as in some specialty refrigeration
systems.
Relative to R-22 there is little to no capacity decrease with Genetron®407C,
making it easier to use in existing equipment designs. However, some loss of
efficiency will occur and some equipment modifications will be required when
retrofitting these systems to Genetron 407C. In designing for new equipment,
some changes may be needed if retention of efficiency ratings is
required.
Since Genetron 407C is a close performance and pressure match to R-22, it is
used as a retrofit fluid in applications where equipment was originally
designed to use R-22. For retrofitting R-22 systems, the equipment manufacturer
should be consulted for their specific guidelines for R-407C.
Like most blends, R-407C exhibits a small degree of "glide", meaning
that one or two components may boil faster than other components. In situations
where there is a vapor-phase leak or where the refrigerant is being transferred
multiple times, the refrigerant can change composition leading to service or
recycling issues. R-407C should only be charged in liquid phase, and reclaimed
R-407C should be tested for composition before use.
R-407C has been given an A1 safety classification by ASHRAE, and Genetron 407C
refrigerant is available in a variety of package sizes depending on your
location. Equipment manufacturers who require help in converting their products
from R-22 to alternatives such as R-407C should contact us to take advantage of
our global experience in helping OEMs to optimize systems for HFC
refrigerants.
