CFCs

CFCs

Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) products such as R-11 and R-12 are no longer manufactured but are still used in a variety of systems, and service refrigerant is sometimes still available in reclaimed form in some developed countries including the United States. In countries operating under "Article 5" provisions of the Montreal protocol agreement, CFCs in virgin form are still available, although these countries are now beginning to implement CFC phase-outs.

Genetron® 11 is a low-pressure refrigerant for centrifugal chillers.

Genetron® 12, a CFC, is a widely used refrigerant in reciprocating and rotary type equipment and in some centrifugal designs. The recommended replacement for CFC-12 is usually R-134a.

Genetron®113 offered low pressures and high gas volumes and was used in primarily in centrifugal chillers.

Genetron® 114 is intermediate in pressure and displacement. Principally used with chillers for higher capacities or for lower evaporator temperature process-type applications.

Genetron® 500, an azeotropic mixture, has slightly higher vapor pressures and provides higher capacities from the same compressor displacement. A mixture of CFC-12 and HFC-152a, R-500 was mostly used in dehumidifiers.
