Honeywell is a long-time supplier of propellants and solvents to the aerosol
industry. These include a line of HFC-based solvents (the Genesolv S series)
and Genetron 134a, an HFC propellant.
Genetron 134a is a non-ozone depleting, non-VOC propellant which is used in a
variety of industrial aerosol formulations where nonflammability is desireable
or essential. It has a vapor pressure profile similar to that of CFC-12 and is
miscible with a variety of propellants and solvents. Genetron 134a is
compatible with most of the plastics and elastomers commonly used in aerosol
packaging. It has a very low order of toxicity.
The use of this propellant may be regulated or restricted in some areas. Check
with the appropriate regulatory authority to determine if any regulations
apply. In the U.S. regulations pertaining to the use of fluorocarbon
propellants can be found on the Environmental Protection Agency's website at www.epa.gov.
