Applications

Acetone is used as a chemical intermediate in the production of bisphenol A (BPA), methyl methacrylate, methyl isobutyl ketone, and other solvent applications.

Some BPA end product applications include polycarbonate uses such as automotive parts, optical media, and glazing/sheeting applications. BPA is also used in epoxy resins for can coatings, adhesives, and electronic insulators.

Methyl methacrylate is used in the production of acrylic plastics which have applications in the automotive industry, housing industry, and in the manufacturing of flat screen televisions.

Methyl isobutyl ketone is a solvent for nitrocellulose. In addition, it is used in lacquers and certain polymers and resins.

The most widely used application for acetone is for solvents used primarily in the paints and coatings industry.
