Safer and More Secure Honeywell's avionics, such as flight management systems, Primus Epic®, our Runway Awareness and Advisory System, and Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System, make flying safer and more efficient for pilots and passengers alike.     Our Nitrogen Generating System dramatically reduces the possibility of fuel tank fires in aircraft.

Thousands of schools, hospitals, factories, retail stores and other locations are protected by Honeywell's smoke, gas and fire-detection systems, including laser smoke detectors. When the lights go out, our Lumilux® phosphorescent pigments illuminate emergency signage and even provide low-level lighting in offices, apartments and other buildings-without a power source. The product provided rescue lighting for people trapped in the United Nations headquarters building during a major power failure in 2003. Pharmaceutical companies choose Honeywell's Aclar® barrier film when they need see-through blister packaging that protects vital medicines from moisture and contamination. Honeywell's Spectra® provides ballistic-resistant protection for the military and law enforcement personnel. The fiber is now also being used for specialty rope applications.     Honeywell works closely with the U.S. Department of Defense, helping to create software and equipment for the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) and the program's Lead Systems Integrator (LSI). Honeywell's work on this program includes development of an unattended ground sensor battlefield intelligence system.

	Honeywell has also worked with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency on the development of a small Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) -- the Micro Air Vehicle, a 13-inch ducted fan surveillance vehicle.
	To protect the irreplaceable art treasures in the Winter Palace, curators at Russia's State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg chose a fire-protection system they knew they could trust from Honeywell.

We are a global leader in refrigerants, aerosols, and foam-insulation blowing agents used to replace ozone-depleting CFCs and HCFCs. Those same products also improve the energy efficiency of homes, appliances, and commercial refrigeration systems. Through our Performance Contracts, Honeywell improves the efficiency of building systems and controls to guarantee savings to customers while reducing environmental impact. Honeywell turbochargers contribute to greenhouse gas reduction by delivering 10 to 20 percent better fuel efficiency in gasoline vehicles and 20 to 40 percent better fuel efficiency in diesel vehicles. They also help reduce particulate emissions from diesel engines. Honeywell is a trusted "guest" in more than 100 million homes and buildings. 	Honeywell has partnered with the American Lung Association to educate homebuilders and heating contractors about indoor air quality issues and how to solve air quality problems. More Innovative and Productive

Our award-winning Experion PKS™ offers process knowledge solutions that automate, control, and monitor manufacturing operations using a network of wireless sensors to enhance efficiency while reducing energy use and emissions. Under a $10 million program with the U.S. Department of Energy, we are developing the industry standard for wireless sensor networks, with a goal of reducing industrial plant energy consumption by 10 to 15 percent.

	Other Honeywell sensors signal when maintenance should be performed on a catalytic cracker in an oil refinery or on the wheels and brakes of a commercial airliner.
	Honeywell technology is enabling Nuremberg, Germany, to operate a fully automated and driver-less remote controlled subway, resulting in lower energy consumption and operating costs.
	Honeywell's satellite navigation and flight management systems enable modern aircraft to fly a straighter route rather than the zig-zag courses required in the past, saving time while reducing fuel use and emissions. Our flight management computer calculates the most fuel-efficient climb and descent angles and cruising altitude. Graphical weather depictions sent to the aircraft via satellite show pilots the shortest, safest route around severe weather.
