Career
A career in Honeywell Research & Development is an opportunity to make
technology happen. In our Manufacturing facilities and labs, R&D invents,
designs, and hones new products for an array of markets and applications.
Research & Development recruits creative minds that push our technical
portfolio forward to meet the demanding needs of our clients worldwide. Working
across industries and technologies, R&D keeps our planes in the air, our
homes cool, our cars running, and our environment clean.
Career Focus
With a focus in Specialty Materials, R&D produces chemicals and
materials to make our world more secure, safe, and innovative in our
laboratories and facilities around the world. Scientists and engineers working
in Specialty Materials eliminate CFCs and ozone-depleting agents, and they work
to make the elements of semiconductors and microprocessors faster and more
powerful. Our Performance Products engineers make pharmaceutical packaging
tamper resistant, and they protect civil and military forces with fibers that
make vests and armor projectile resistant.
A career in Honeywell Specialty Materials R&D includes creating new
ideas and making previous ideas better. In it you will experience the birth of
new technologies, products, and processes, and you may design new and better
applications, implement new technologies, and provide technical support for our
customers.
Career Path
One possible path is to begin as a Bench Chemist, working in the labs on
applications and new product development. From there you might manage teams of
chemists in new product development. Once the product is made, you may then
work closely with Sales & Marketing, and have significant input and face
time with customers. Management of an entirely new technology could follow, and
our leaders end up managing entire R&D sites. Another path starts in
Product Development, and moves into Simulations and Modeling. This path will
have you going into our plants and setting up experiments. You will work to
expand the work done in our facilities and drive the best technologies, with
the most capacity, in the safest way possible.
If you find the Marketing and Business Development of designs appealing, you
would move into our commercial groups and learn how to work with clients to
meet their technology needs. Then, you would rotate into our Six Sigma training
to work on client processes and application rollout. Some become managers of
entire product lines or businesses.
