Career
The Human Resources (HR) Pathways Leadership Development Program helps
introduce new Honeywell Human Resources staff to the profession. This entry
point delivers a complete understanding of our employee base and employee
relations. For those entering Honeywell's Human Resources in a Generalist
position, Pathways will teach them to be an employee advocate, ultimately
learning and contributing to a broad array of human resource
responsibilities.
Crucial to the Pathways Leadership Development Program is its developmental
focus. This enables HR professionals to gain competencies that help them serve
businesses and customers, and demonstrate knowledge. A rotational structure
helps them acquire new skills and experiences across businesses, geographic
regions, and functions. As you acquire additional skills through this
experience, it elevates you from a supporting function to a leading role. As
the level of complexity increases through the program, so will your
responsibilities. This will lead to greater expectations to deliver on
commitments and build your record of accomplishment.
In addition, HR Pathways provides exposure, encouraging participants to try
new and different opportunities. Mobility is vital as an HR Pathways
participant because you may serve in various locations in the USA and globally.
HR Pathways participants learn the importance of leading by example, and learn
how to manage their career. Involvement in HR Pathways means developing
mentors, resources, and networks that become critical in one's career path.
Career Focus
Focusing on a functional specialty allows a Human Resource employee to
develop a deeper level of understanding and competency in one or two particular
human resource activities: compensation and benefits; staffing; performance
management; talent management; and organizational development. As a functional
specialist, you will become an expert to which peers turn for guidance. The
challenge becomes communicating the knowledge you learn with those who may only
periodically face these issues. Gaining functional experience in HR is a key
part of career growth and developing stronger competencies as you navigate your
career path.
Career Path
Though there are multiple paths for our HR staff to take, here is an example
of a Compensation and Benefits Analyst who has been with Honeywell for two
years and seven months. The Analyst began as an HR Generalist with the
Transportation Systems Consumer Products Group in Greenville, Ohio. Her
responsibilities included labor relations for approximately 250 hourly
employees. During the first year, she obtained a Six Sigma Green Belt
certification by streamlining the hourly staffing process.
Year two found her in Phoenix, Arizona, with the Aerospace Engines, Systems
& Services (ES&S) Propulsion Systems enterprise, where she supported a
population of 500 salaried aerospace engineers. She was involved with
performance management, salary planning, employee relations, staffing, and
management coaching. Other initiatives included creating four new career paths
for engineering support job functions and working with the director of
engineering to help him restructure his organization.
The beginning of year three found her in Prague, Czech Republic, on a
short-term international assignment with Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)
Corporate. There she analyzed compensation and benefits in nine countries in
Central and Eastern Europe; studied marketing trends to ensure Honeywell's
competitiveness in the region; attracted and retained new talent; and served as
a compensation resource.
