Honeywell Launches ADS-B Enabled Traffic Computer For Improved Airborne
Safety And Efficiency With Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines Selects Honeywell’s Suite of Avionics Which Includes
SmartTraffic™, SmartRunway™ and IntuVue® 3-D Weather Radar
systems for improved safety, situational awareness and fuel
efficiency
SINGAPORE, Feb. 3, 2010 -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that
Turkish Airlines is the first customer to select Honeywell’s SmartTraffic™
system which enables the newly developed Airbus Airborne Traffic Situational
Awareness (ATSAW) system. Utilizing ADS-B technology to increase safety by
providing pilots with more information on surrounding air traffic, the new
software also allows pilots to better plan for oceanic flight level changes to
reduce fuel burn – resulting in significant cost savings.
“ATSAW and Honeywell’s SmartTraffic technology increases safety and situational
awareness by displaying more surrounding aircraft and more information than
Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS)-only systems,” said John Bolton,
Honeywell President of Air Transport and Regional business. “ATSAW enables
flight path changes to smoother air for fuel savings and offers enhanced visual
separation on approach so that higher volumes of aircraft can land
safely.”
The reduced fuel burn through transoceanic flight routing using ATSAW and
Honeywell’s SmartTraffic technology is estimated to save more than $100,000 per
aircraft per year.
Turkish Airlines selected ATSAW and Honeywell’s SmartTraffic technology on 10
new A330s delivered in 2010 through 2012.
Turkish also selected Honeywell avionics for its A330s including SmartRunway, a
technology designed to break the chain of events leading to runway incidents;
IntuVue Advanced 3-D Weather Radar; Satellite Communication Systems; Air Data
Inertial Reference System; Flight Management System; ; Quantum Line Radios
(VHF, VOR, DME, ADF, ); Multi-Mode Receiver; Radio Altimeter; TCAS/Traffic
Computer; Mode S Transponder; HF radio and Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning
System.
For 12 new Boeing 777 to be delivered between 2010 and 2011, Turkish selected
the full suite of Honeywell avionics products including IntuVue Advanced 3-D
Weather Radar; SmartRunway; Satellite Communication Systems; Solid State
Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorders; Multi Mode Receiver; Quantum Line
Radios (VHF, VOR, DME, ADF); Radio Altimeter; TCAS/Traffic Computer and Mode S
Transponders.
