Honeywell Teachers for the 21st Century will immerse New Jersey
middle school science teachers and their students in authentic investigations
that are enhanced through Internet-based real time data and global
telecollaboration.
The curricula, developed by the Stevens Center for Innovation in Engineering
and Science Education (CIESE), promote problem solving, quantitative analysis,
collaboration, and student engagement in learning through the integration of
science, mathematics, technology, and engineering.
Participants in the summer educational opportunity will be active
investigators and technology designers in a supported environment. They will be
exposed to a range of middle school science concepts and topics, from human
genetics to creating earthquake-resistant structures. The CIESE curricula have
been recognized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the
National Science Teachers Association, and the White House Office of Science
and Technology Policy.
