Honeywell Institute for Ecosystems Education
Energy, water, waste management and air quality are among
the most prominent topics in the media, business and politics today. Educators
have a unique opportunity to help their students better understand these issues
and their environment.
The Honeywell
Institute for Ecosystems Education in partnership with the New Jersey
Audubon Society, takes science and social studies teachers into an active
exploration of local sites throughout the Hackensack watershed to learn new
teaching techniques, gain practice using field study instruments and
technologies, and discover creative methods to integrate natural system studies
into their existing curriculum.
Teachers participating in the Honeywell Institute for
Ecosystems Education program will:
•
Model lessons and
teaching techniques for classroom use that support the N.J. Core Curriculum
Content Standards,
•
Investigate the
forested regions of the New Jersey Highlands and sites throughout the
Hackensack Watershed, and
•
Share ideas with
professionals in the environmental field.
