Research and Development (R&D) investments are made, in close collaboration
with Aerospace Marketing and Product Management (M&PM), in technologies
that will provide Honeywell Aerospace with substantive growth opportunities in
the future. M&PM develops 5-10 year product roadmaps for all the product
families within Honeywell Aerospace that gives Engineering and Advanced
Technology critical insights into the business needs for the future. From these
roadmaps, Advanced Technology can propose technologies and technical solutions
that enable these products to be achieved with their requisite
critical-to-quality (CTQs) characteristics. R&D investment decisions are
then made based on the proposed technical solutions and estimated business
payoffs.
Generally, Advanced Technology carries a project portfolio of approximately
150 â 200 projects that are funded directly by M&PM. In addition, another
150- 200 projects are funded directly by outside customers, including
government agencies such as Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
and others.
